Biography

Adrian North, NaturalIcon’s principal photographer, was born in London, England. Growing up he was lucky to live alongside one of the city’s large open areas and he was able to wander freely through the woods and fields from a young age. It is from these childhood experiences that his love of all things wild originates.

After school and university he went to live & work in South Africa where the vast openness was in complete contrast to where he had grown up. He also found that the animals there tended to be bigger! As part of his job he was priveledged to be able to spend many days and quite a few nights under African skies. It influenced him so much that, instead of staying there for the two years he had planned he remained for another 10.

For most of his life Adrian has had a camera of one sort or another. He started taking "snaps" when he was still quite young although most were out of fucus or had trees coming out of his sitters heads. At university he and a friend could be found most evenings in the college darkroom developing the films they had taken and making black & white prints.

Adrian did some photography whilst in South Africa but spent his time completing his education and getting to know and love Africa. Upon returning to the UK he set about learning more about photography and to spend more of his time photographing the nature he loves so much.
